Cinematography for Actors Empowers the Next Generation of Filmmakers During their L.A. Visit

During spring break, a group of twelve film students from the University of North Georgia (UNG) traded their classrooms for the streets of Los Angeles and got a real taste of life in the industry.

Cinematography for Actors (CFA) played a key role in guiding these students through their week-long study away program, offering them not just access to the film world, but meaningful insight into it. Since its founding in 2022, CFA has focused on empowering underrepresented filmmakers and actors through education and connection, and this program was no exception.

Students participated in hands-on learning, industry networking, and eye-opening site visits—from Warner Bros. Studio to the Academy Museum. But it was the real-life exposure to working professionals and CFA’s tailored support that truly made the impact.

For students like Claritssa Vargas and Dani Salame, the experience redefined what’s possible. Vargas connected with Women’s Voices Now for a future documentary project on immigration, while Salame discovered new momentum toward her dream of becoming a script supervisor.

Whether it was learning about continuity on set, refining networking skills, or just standing in the same places their filmmaking heroes once stood, the students came home changed—and charged.

Cinematography for Actors continues to be a force in bridging the gap between training and opportunity. For these students, CFA wasn’t just part of the itinerary—it was the spark.
